Feed Your Child 'Brain Food' for Exam Success

The end of the school year is upon us! It can be a stressful time, full of assignments, papers, and the dreaded exams!! Did you know that the kind of food that you give your child can help them to improve their grades? The Tutoring Center, Humble has put together some ideas for great, nutritious foods brain foods to feed your kids.

Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day – it provides fuel to help your child stay energized and alert throughout the morning. Complex carbohydrates release sustained energy over long periods of time. Try whole grain breakfast cereals, or eggs on whole grain toast. Eggs also contain a substance called ‘choline’ that has been linked to improvements in brain development and memory.

Healthy Snacks

Send your child to school with healthy snacks, so that they don’t feel tempted by chips and chocolate. Nuts are full of vitamin E, which has been shown to improve cognitive function. Blueberries are also an amazing brain food – studies have found that these little antioxidant powerhouses increase learning abilities in rats.

Fish Friday

Oily fish, such as salmon is high in Omega 3 fatty acids. Adding one or two portions a week could help improve your child’s brain health and memory.
