Many children dislike math because they don’t like the idea of sitting down and solving problems in a notebook. Fortunately, there are many ways to practice math that don’t involve paper and pencil. Here are some of them. Math can be tough for many students, even more so if they don’t learn to enjoy it while they’re young. You can help them learn to enjoy math, or at least to like math. The Tutoring Center, Humble TX has prepared a few pointers to help you out on this mission.

Be Sneaky About It

A good way for your children to accidentally learn to love math is have them sneakily work on it. You can play games like chess, dominoes, cards, Monopoly, or Yahtzee. They all somehow involve math and children won’t even notice.

Talk About Math as a Necessity

It’s easier to learn something if you know you’re actually going to be using it. Let your children know about the ways they use math in their everyday lives and try to apply what they learn in class to their everyday activities. Math is used when they’re using building blocks, when they go shopping, when they measure how much they’ve grown... it’s everywhere!

Add Some Reading to the Mix

Perhaps your children prefer reading over math…or maybe their love for reading is something they have to work on too. Why not kill two birds with one stone by mixing them together. Find some books in which the hero uses math or logic to solve their problems. There are plenty of books available that involve math in a fun way.
