The Tutoring Center in Humble would like to share six simple tips for you and your child, in order to help him or her remain organized this school year. Remember that there is a relationship between organization and academic excellence, and as we care about your child’s achievement, we hope that you are able to utilize these tips in order to help make this year the most organized yet.

Set Goals

What is it you want to accomplish today, this week, and even more long term, this year? Write down your goals, be they personal or academic. Brainstorm ways you can achieve them and keep this in mind throughout the year.

Avoid Clutter

The more you have, the easier it is to become disorganized. Ensure that your locker, backpack, and workspace stay free of loose papers and other distractions.

Designate a Study Space

Speaking of your workspace, find a place in your home that you can use for this purpose. With the permission of your parents, claim a space in the home for study and homework. Avoid clutter here, as well as distraction. Also find a place in your home to put your homework, projects, backpack, and anything else you will need for school the following day. This will help you to avoid the rush in the morning of finding all that is needed.

Write It Down

Though it is possible that you will remember, this strategy is not the most effective for knowing your homework assignments and when they are due. Likewise, taking pictures of the due homework is also not the most effective. Remember that you want to avoid distractions when doing the homework, and though you may innocently enough, take out your phone to review what is due, you know the distraction that is now at your fingertips.

Use a Planner

A great way to keep track of what is due, is to use planner. Try getting one that is divided into individual days, that way you have more space to write down in detail, what is due. If you have an assignment that will not be turned in for an extended period of time, make a note when it was assigned, when it is due, as well as notes in between to remind you to work on it. This way you’ll avoid doing the assignment the night before, and stressing over it.

Break It Up and Work it Out

Figure out what works for you, keeping in mind that academics should take precedence over other activities, even if they are more entertaining. Decide if it works best for you to do the most difficult assignments first and then move to the easier, or vise versa. If you need a break between assignments, take one. Go for a short walk, a jog around the house, eat a snack, wash your face, and most importantly come back to the task at hand.

As your child is growing to be a more organized individual, you may still find that he or she is in need of some academic assistance. The Tutoring Center is here for exactly that reason. Give us a call to schedule an assessment and tutoring in Humble, 832-644-1404.
