January is the time to set goals and make resolutions. To be able to achieve your goals you need to set them smartly. Here’s how you can set goals you can stick to.

You Should Set Your Goals Wisely

Many of us choose to make New Year's resolutions every January. Many of us tend to forget those resolutions a month later. The problem is we’re not setting our goals smartly. If you want to be able to reach your goals you need to be wise when you choose them. These are the five characteristics your resolutions or goals should have.

A Guide to Setting SMART Goals

Specific: Your goals must be as specific as possible. In fact, you should create a step to step plan to reach them. Instead of saying, “This year I will get in better physical shape,” say, “This year to get in shape, I will exercise three times a week.” It’s easier to work towards something if you know exactly what you want. Measurable: It’s easy to get disheartened if you do not see any visible changes, which is why your goals should be measurable. You need to be able to see how much you’re advancing towards your objective. If you want to read more books, make a list of the books you’d like to read and how many you plan to finish per month and start crossing them off. Achievable: Don’t set yourself up to fail. Make your goals as feasible as possible. We all have different capabilities, and you need to set your goals according to what you can actually do. Realistic: You have to be able to work with what you have. You can’t expect to be ready to complete a marathon if you only train twice a week. There must not be any factors such as time or money that can affect your possibility of reaching your objectives. Timely: You need to give yourself enough time to reach your goals. Be reasonable; changes don’t just happen overnight. You do need to give yourself a time limit so you won’t get lazy and forget about your resolutions.
